2016 March Madness: #16 Holy Cross vs #16 Southern

Bill-Carmody-holy-cross-crusaders-southern-jaguars-2016-ncaa-tournamentWe are here to help you fill out your brackets and finally beat your cubicle neighbor in your office pool this year.

The Patriot League has had some big moments in the NCAA Tournament. Teams have come from this conference and played the role of Cinderella. Bucknell and Lehigh are two teams from the conference that come to mind when the word ‘Cinderella’ is mentioned.

The SWAC conference doesn’t have the same kind of glimmer. Teams from this conference is usually seen as an easy-out, but the small conference tournament is always a battle until a winner is crowned.

Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.

The Holy Cross Crusaders did nearly the impossible just to make it into the NCAA Tournament. They went 5-13 in conference play and had to play four road games in order to win the Patriot League conference tournament. That’s insane. Also, this must sting for Northwestern fans, since first-year coach Bill Carmody coached Northwestern for thirteen seasons…a university that has never made the NCAA Tournament.

The Southern Jaguars are the lone-bid school from the small SWAC conference. They finished fourth in the SWAC during the regular season, but upset Texas Southern, the regular season champs, the SWAC conference tournament.

Holy Cross is one of the lowest-scoring teams in the nation. Both Holy Cross and Southern can hit shots from the perimeter since they are undersized. Southern played a better non-conference schedule and actually beat Mississippi State. I’m going to flip a coin and pick Southern in this game.

Prediction: #16 Southern Jaguars
