2014 March Madness: #8 Colorado vs #9 Pittsburgh

Talib Zanna Pittsburgh Panthers 2014 NCAA TournamentThis is the first of many NCAA Tournament games we are picking to help you fill out your bracket.

The Big 12 and ACC were both strong conferences this season. Colorado and Pittsburgh faced elite competition and have a few marquee wins to hang their hat on.

Colorado is a different team than the squad they dressed in November. Injuries have caused players to step up.

Pittsburgh is playing great right now. They didn’t look like a NCAA Tournament team for a period of time, but turned this around late.

Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.

The Colorado Buffaloes looked like a possible title contender early in the season, but then star guard Spencer Dinwiddie tore his ACL. It could have completely derailed their season, but they still managed an at-large bid. They finished the season 9-9 and didn’t win a game against a ranked opponent after Dinwiddie was sidelined.

Pittsburgh was a bubble team until late February. They were coming off a three-game losing streak and couldn’t afford to lose many more games. They went 3-1 through rest of the regular season and won two games in the ACC Conference tournament. Lamar Patterson is the star, but I personally love watching Talib Zanna play. The senior stands out against underclassman.

Colorado making the tournament after losing their star is a great story. The team should be proud they made it this far. Pittsburgh is playing well right now and is a better team right now. I love Pitt in this matchup.

Prediction: #9 Pittsburgh Panthers
