2013 March Madness: #7 Creighton vs #10 Cincinnati

Doug McDermottWhen a higher seeded mid-major team faces a lower seeded power conference team, the mid-major team can often fail when the stage gets bigger.

#7 Creighton (27-7) vs. #10 Cincinnati (22-11) game could be a breeding ground for an upset.

Creighton isn’t an underdog this year. That little extra motivation of being one, can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.

The Creighton Bluejays were a part of the mid-major emergence in the late 90’s and early 00’s. They have been a fixture at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference standings ever since. This Creighton squad is their best since 2002, when Kyle Korver was a Bluejay.

Doug McDermott is the superstar on Creighton. He’s predicted to possibly be a first-round pick in this year’s NBA Draft. He can can score inside, rebound and for a 6’8 forward, he has NBA three-point range. He is main source of production, but Gregory Echenique can hurt teams too.

The Cincinnati Bearcats started the season off on a roll. Their non-conference schedule was average, but they did have neutral site wins against Iowa State and Oregon. They hit a wall when the Big East schedule began. Cincy did not have any wins against the Big East elite, but they did win at Pittsburgh and at home against Marquette.

Cincinnati is a very good rebounding team. A skill that every player in their starting five can do. UC guard Sean Kilpatrick is a player I’ve always liked. He did not have a season on par with 2011-12, but he is still a threat to score 20+ points a night.

If you need one stat that makes picking this game easy, Creighton has the best team field goal percentage in the country (.508) and Cincinnati has the 305th best team field goal percentage (.402). This contest is the easiest game to pick. Creighton will win this game by double-digits.

Prediction: #7 Creighton Bluejays
