2013 March Madness: #4 Saint Louis vs #13 New Mexico State

Sim+Bhullar+New+Mexico+StateDo you want to watch a chubby, Canadian 7’5 basketball player run around?

You’re in luck.

The game between #4 Saint Louis and #13 New Mexico State has one of those. NMSU’s 7’5, 355 lb. Sim Bhullar, who is destined to have a sideshow-like appeal.

After winning the A-10 Tournament, Saint Louis is getting a lot of buzz to be a sleeper pick to win the Midwest bracket. The buzz is warranted, but they have a huge, very huge mountain of a man to climb.

Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.

The Saint Louis Billikens have had an emotional season so far. Their former coach Rick Majerus passed away and they dedicated the season to him. It’s a lot to put on the shoulders of 18-22 year old men, but they’ve had a great season. They have faced six ranked teams and have a record of 5-1 in those contests. Their only loss came against Kansas on a neutral court.

Saint Louis is on a 15-1 run, with the loss being an overtime loss at Xavier earlier this month. Their momentum comes from the play of junior forward Dwayne Evans. He takes high-percentage shots and even has some range.

Sim Bhullar and the New Mexico State Aggies are the best #13 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They won the WAC conference tournament as a #3 seed. Louisiana Tech and Denver were the favorites, but both teams lost early in the tournament. NMSU took advantage of other teams knocking them off.

NMSU took advantage of an easy route in their conference tourney, but they are a talented team. Daniel Mullings is a good perimeter defender and can put up some points. Bhullar’s size can be overwhelming, but he only plays about half the game due to his lack of stamina.

I predict Saint Louis advancing to the second round of the tournament. They will gameplan around Bhullar and take advantage of inside scoring when he’s on the bench. Saint Louis is just too hot right now to lose to this game.

Prediction: #4 Saint Louis Billikens
