If you miss the #3 Marquette vs. #14 Davidson game on Thursday afternoon, you’re not a college basketball fan.
Stephen Curry is no longer on Davidson, but the team is filled with players who have NBA range.
Marquette was better than expected this season. They out-performed their talent and deserve to be a #3 seed, but is Davidson a bad matchup?
Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.
The Marquette Golden Eagles played the 14th toughest schedule in college basketball. They faced 13 teams in the RPI Top-50. They were unranked going into the season and have a knack for winning close games.
Vander Blue and Davante Gardner lead the team with different styles. Blue is a playmaker who slashes to the rim and Gardner bangs in the post to get his shot attempts. No one on Marquette shoots well from behind the arc. If they get behind, it’s hard to get back into games.
The Davidson Wildcats excels at all the things a mid-major should do, but they’re from a smal conference. They push the ball up the court and are excellent perimeter shooters. If they get hot, they can upset any team in this tournament.
If you didn’t know Davidson loves to shoot from deep, you just have to look at the boxscores. Tyler Kalinoski, Nik Cochran, Jake Cohen and Chris Czerapowicz have combined for 198 three pointers this season.
Marquette might be a better team than Davidson, but the Golden Eagles will lose this game. Davidson are good at everything Marquette has trouble with. The only way Marquette will come out with a win, is if the entire Davidson team goes ice cold.
Prediction: #14 Davidson Wildcats
