#3 Florida (26-7) vs. #14 Northwestern State (23-8) will be a high scoring contest. Northwestern St. is the highest scoring team in the country (81.0 ppg).
Both teams have four players who average more than ten points per game and use more than eight players in their rotation. There’s no need to worry about teams looking tired, they have a replacement ready to go.
Can Northwestern State pull off the upset?
Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.
Florida coach Billy Donovan has done this all before. He has won two national championships with teams with talented upperclassmen. This squad also has experienced juniors and seniors.
Kenny Boynton and Patric Young came back this season to win a title. The player I want to watch more of is 6’10 forward Erik Murphy. He can bang in the paint and he even shoots over 45% from behind the arc. If a few things go their way, they could go deep in the tournament.
The Northwestern State Demons run around the court like they’re possessed. They push the ball down the court and and shoot the ball the first chance they get. They don’t focus on defense at all. They’re not as bad as Loyola Marymount when Bo Kimble was there, but they push the tempo more than any other team in the country.
DeQuan Hicks and James Hulbin are NWST’s best players. They are the best all-around players, but Jalan West is the only player with at least some defensive capabilities.
Northwestern State is a sleeper upset pick I’ve read around the internet. I don’t see it. Florida is an elite scoring team. If a team pushing the tempo, they can hang and probably embarrass them. I have the Gators winning this game by a couple touchdowns.
Prediction: #3 Florida Gators
