NBA All-Star Weekend is a fun time for NBA players to bask in their fame and rub elbows with celebrities. The game itself is usually high-scoring, but doesn’t get competitive until the fourth quarter, if it is close at all.
Some may even say the highlight of the weekend is the skills competitions that take place on Saturday night. The Slam Dunk competition has a few names in it, but nothing like the stars that would enter in its golden era. The three-point competition is probably my favorite competition of the night since there’s rarely ever something new tried in the dunk contest these days.
We list the betting odds for the All-Star Game MVP, Dunk Contest, Three-Point Competition, Rising Stars Game MVP and Skills competition winners. We also pick some winners for the prop bets.
Houston Rockets guard James Harden is currently the hottest free agent on the market…let me rephrase that, his feet are the hottest free agents on the market. His deal with Nike expired and it is rumored that Adidas offered a 13-year/$200 million contract to the bearded basketball player.
It’s an insane amount of money just to advertise on a player’s feet. I could see LeBron, Durant, Kobe and a few other elite players, but I don’t believe Harden is in the same category as those players. I don’t see a Harden signature shoe flying off the shelves.
I understand Adidas has to overpay basketball talent to wear their shoes, since Nike is ‘cooler’, but shouldn’t they just roll the dice and sign a bunch of up & coming rookies hoping one or two of them get crazy popular?
Houston went from trying to score Carmelo Anthony to losing Chandler Parsons to Dallas in the process. We later heard rumors that they were never going to offer him anywhere near the contract he got from Dallas, but that could be sour grapes. The consolation prize of Trevor Ariza is not bad at all. Let’s hope his second stint in Houston is much better than his first.
Last season was seen as a transition year in Houston. They had to see how Dwight Howard fit in their system and figure out the necessary moves they had to make around him. They tried to make a big splash with Anthony, but I feel they are better off with their current roster.
We will be posting a team preview for every team up until the start of the regular season.
Here is the 2014-15 NBA season preview for the Houston Rockets.
