Toy Crazy: May 2017 WWE Funko Releases

WWE Funko May 2017 Finn Balor chaseWe haven’t covered any Funko releases on this site, but it’s about time we do.

We have reviewed a lot of Mattel’s WWE Elite figures, but Funko has also released some pretty solid figures in the past. I’m a big collector and you can see some of my collection on my Instagram, @vintagetoybob.

I’ve plugged another site in my previous Mattel posts, but if you’re looking to order Funko figures, I’d trust intheringcollectibles.com. I’ve bought a ton of stuff from them and they always pack shipments very well. You can use code ‘paulyp‘ for a discount.

Here are some pictures of Funko’s May 2017 WWE POP! vinyl releases.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 50

WWE Elite 50 Shane McMahon Stephanie McMahon Baron Corbin John Cena Warlord Rhyno Mattel toysI’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. I collect vintage wrestling action figures from the 80’s & 90’s. I started purchasing some vintage toys out of nostalgia. Well, WWE and Mattel sucked me into their new stuff. I now buy a few figures a month. You can view photos of my collection on my Instagram account.

The lineup in Elite 50 is overall pretty darn solid. Four in the series are the wrestler’s first ever elite and the accessories are fantastic…especially and entire announce table with Shane.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 50 are Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Baron Corbin, Rhyno, Warlord and John Cena.

The lineup in Elite 49 is pretty good. Five out of the six figures are the wrestler’s first elite. There are some awesome figures in this set, but I question a few accessory choices.

The WWE Superstars included in Elite 49 are Becky Lynch, Enzo Amore, Big Cass, Apollo Crews, Randy Orton & Brutus Beefcake.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 48

wwe-elite-48-dean-ambrose-cactus-jack-boogeyman-kalisto-rowan-dolph-ziggler-mattel-toysI’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. I collect vintage wrestling action figures from the 80’s & 90’s. The lineup in Elite 48 is just all right. It is heavy on current Smackdown Live superstars with Cactus Jack and Boogeyman added as flashbacks.

This set could have issues selling out at retail since Dean Ambrose and Kalisto already have quite a few recent elites…but Boogeyman could be one of the best figures of 2017.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 47.5

wwe-elite-47-5-the-rock-goldust-kane-the-ascension-brian-pillman-mattel-toysI’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. I collect vintage wrestling action figures from the 80’s & 90’s. You can view photos of my collection on my Instagram account.

The lineup in Elite 47.5 is solid. I’m glad Mattel is trying to put out an in-between series instead of sending mixed collection of elites to retail. Elite Series 47.5 includes debut Goldust, The Ascension (Konnor & Victor), Flyin’ Brian Pillman, Kane and The Rock.

The lineup in Elite 47 is amazeballs. You have the three ‘First Time In Line’ figures from AJ Styles, Asuka and Tatanka, and solid figures of Big Boss Man, Kevin Owens and Cesaro. This lineup could be the best of the year.

Toy Crazy: Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 30

WWE Elite 30 Animal Hawk Lex Luger Batista Brock Lesnar RybackI’m a self-confessed vintage toy nerd. I collect vintage wrestling action figures from the 80’s & 90’s. I had a hard time getting into new action figures. I started purchasing the old toys I had as a kid out of nostalgia. Well, the WWE finally figured out a way to suck me into their new products…release quality figures of wrestlers I grew up watching.

As soon as I saw the line-up for Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 30, I basically just threw my money at my laptop screen. I’m a sucker for the Legion of Doom (otherwise known as The Road Warriors) and the Lex Express-era patriotic Lex Luger is just icing on the cake.

I let you know when these will hit the shelves, and which accessories come with each figure in Mattel’s WWE Elite Series 30.

Toy Crazy: The Definitive WWF LJN Checklist

Ultimate Warrior LJN 1989 Toy WWF WWE Action FigureI know we all had toys as a kid that either got destroyed or sold by your parents at a yard sale. Well, a lot of those toys now go for big money on eBay. In particular, the WWF LJN line of toys from the 80’s.

The WWF LJN line had figures of recognizable fame (Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, Bret Hart, Macho Man, etc). They made standard 8-inch figures, Bendies, 16-inch figures, thumb wrestlers & even Stretch Armstrong-like toys.

Many collectors like collecting LJNs because there are many variants in the line. Many aren’t widely-considered variants, but just slight production errors. Once LJN went out of business in 1989, Canadian toy company Grand Toys took over production for the last series.

I contacted a few hardcore WWF LJN collectors and spoke to them about variants and decided to make a definitive list for those collecting action figures and the posters that accompany the standard figures (yes, there are even poster variants).

Here is the definitive WWF LJN checklist with all the widely accepted known variants for the standard figures, Bendies, Thumb Wrestlers, 16-inch figures, Stretch wrestlers and Posters.
