2015 NFL Team Preview: Washington Redskins

weird funny washington redskins nfl 2015 season team previewI’m sure Washington owner Dan Snyder would like a do-over and avoid mortgaging his future to trade up to draft quarterback Robert Griffin III. His tenure has been marred with injuries, fumbles and mediocrity. If there was ever a quarterback that needed a change of scenery, it would be RG3.

Washington officially starts the ‘Kirk Cousins era’ this year. Will it be as forgettable as the ‘Patrick Ramsey era’ or will he lead the team to a winning record?

The NFC East will be a beast again this season. The Giants, Eagles and Cowboys are all favored to contend for a playoff spot. It will be that much harder for the Redskins to be respectable.

Here is the 2015 NFL team preview for the Washington Redskins.

2014 Win/Loss Record: 4-12

Key Additions: CB Chris Culliver, DE Stephen Paea, DT Terrance Knighton, S Dashon Goldson & DE Ricky Jean-Francois

Key Losses: RB Roy Helu, WR Leonard Hankerson, DE Jarvis Jenkins, DE Stephen Bowen, OLB Brian Orakpo, S Brandon Meriweather, S Ryan Clark, CB Tracy Porter & WR Santana Moss

2015 Draft Picks: OT Brandon Scherff, DE Preston Smith, RB Matt Jones, WR Jamison Crowder, OG Arie Kouandjio, OLB Martrell Spaight, S Kyshoen Jarrett, OLB Tevin Mitchel, WR Evan Spencer & C Austin Reiter

Non-Division Schedule: AFC East, NFC South & (St. Louis/Chicago)

Fantasy SleeperQB Robert Griffin III – Yes, RG3 has fallen to ‘sleeper’ level. He lost the starting job to Kirk Cousins, but he could still regain it if Cousins stinks up the joint. It could happen. Cousins didn’t look great last season. Washington isn’t exactly playoff-bound, so there will be a point in which Washington will need to see what Griffin has left in the tank to either keep him in their future plans or parade him out there and hope another team seems something they like. He could be worth a roster spot on the bench, especially in a deep league.

Projected Starters

Offense – QB Kirk Cousins, RB Alfred Morris, WR DeSean Jackson, WR Pierre Garcon, WR Andre Roberts, TE Jordan Reed, LT Trent Williams, LG Shawn Lauvao, C Kory Lichtensteiger, RG Spencer Long & RT Brandon Scherff

Defense – DE Stephen Paea, DT Terrance Knighton, DE Jason Hatcher, LOLB Ryan Kerrigan, ILB Perry Riley, ILB Kennan Robinson, ROLB Trent Murphy, CB Chris Culliver, CB Bashaud Breeland, SS Jeron Johnson & FS Dashon Goldson

Team Analysis: The Redskins decided to bench Robert Griffin III and officially give the starting job to Kirk Cousins. The decision was years in the making and his preseason performance didn’t help his cause. I still think RG3 has a lot to give a franchise, but it may not be with Washington. The Redskins look pretty good on paper. They have playmakers on both sides of the ball, but they haven’t been able to produce on the field. The NFC East has been pretty darn good recently, so that hasn’t bode well for Washington either. It looks like it could be another long season in Washington. Head coach Jay Gruden will not survive another one of those.

2015 Wins Over/Under Line: 6.5 (Prediction: UNDER)

2015 Projected Win/Loss Record: 6-10 (4th in NFC East)
