2013 NCAA Football – Week 7 Betting Picks Against Spread

1959_Texas_vs_Oklahoma_Red_River_RivalryI’m on a hot streak.

I went 12-5 last week with my picks, bringing my season total to 39-21-4 on the season.

Week 7 of the college football season (October 12th to be exact) isn’t filled with as many marquee games as last week, but there are plenty of rivalry games.

We now have a good idea on which teams are good, but trap games and upsets often happen in the middle of the season. Favorites are often overvalued, so be careful with your picks. Vegas knows who the best teams are too, so the value isn’t there anymore.

We answer those questions and pick against the spread for all the big college football games on Saturday…we also sneak in a few Thursday night games in the MAC and American Athletic Conference

Iowa State at Texas Tech (-14.5) – My pick is Iowa State

There is no longer value in betting on Texas Tech. Their offense is looking great under head coach Kliff Kingsbury, but starting quarterback Baker Mayfield went down with a knee injury last week. Davis Webb or Michael Brewer will start if Mayfield is unable to play. Iowa State looked good in a loss to Texas last week. Neither Iowa State nor Texas Tech have a good defense. I expect a high scoring game won by Tech, but 14.5 is too large of a deficit to confidently bet on the Red Raiders.

Memphis at Houston (-9.5) – My pick is Houston

This one is easy to handicap. Houston has beaten Memphis by 39 & 41 in their last two meetings. Houston’s offense is just too explosive for Memphis stop. I expect Houston to win big at home.

Indiana at Michigan State (-9.5) – My pick is Indiana

I’ve been betting on football games for many years and I have NEVER bet on Indiana. They have been historically bad…but, I feel confident Michigan State will fail to cover. The Hoosiers’ offense is good at putting points on the board and Michigan State has trouble in that area. The Spartans are 4-1, but the highest point total they’ve scored against an FBS team is 26. The least amount of points scored by Indiana so far is 28. I’m not saying IU will win this game.

Missouri at Georgia (-8) – My pick is Georgia

Mizzou is 5-0, but they have yet to play any legitimate teams. Georgia is battle-tested and shouldn’t have trouble covering the spread at home…unless their injuries are too much to overcome. Bet cautiously on this game.

Oklahoma at Texas (+13.5) – My pick is Texas

This could be Mack Brown’s last Red River Rivalry game. Texas has lost the last three games against Oklahoma, with the last two being blowouts. The Longhorns have extra motivation, since they don’t want Brown to go out with a loss to the Sooners. Oklahoma is a really good team, but two touchdowns is too big of a spread to cover at Texas.

Florida at LSU (-6.5) – My pick is LSU

I love LSU in this game. Their defense may not be as great this year, but they score a lot of points. Florida will miss QB Jeff Driskel in this game. The Gators won’t be able to keep up with the Tigers. LSU will win this game by more than a touchdown at home.

Oregon at Washington (+13.5) – My pick is Oregon

The Oregon Ducks have yet to give me any hesitation about putting a few jelly beans on them to cover. They are 5-0 ATS this season and will cover at Washington. I have too much faith in the Ducks’ offense.

Michigan at Penn State (+2) – My pick is Michigan

Penn State lost last week at Indiana and Michigan’s only close contest was a trap game against UConn. The Nittany Lions are a good story, but Michigan is too good to only be favored by less than a field goal.

Northwestern at Wisconsin (-10.5) – My pick is Wisconsin

I never like double-digit point spreads in the Big Ten. Northwestern nearly beat Ohio State last week and I don’t believe in Wisconsin. BUT…I feel like this is a big ‘hangover’ game for Northwestern. Vegas loves the Badgers and have yet to lose ATS. The Badgers will win the game, but it will be close to the spread.

Texas A&M at Ole Miss (+6) – My pick is Texas A&M

The Aggies are coming off a bye week and Mississippi is coming off two bad losses at Auburn and at Alabama. They are a beaten team. Johnny Manziel will go into Oxford and put a bunch of crooked numbers on the scoreboard. A&M will win big in this game.

South Florida at Connecticut (-5) – My pick is South Florida

Baylor at Kansas State (+17) – My pick is Baylor

Arizona at USC (-6) – My pick is USC

Rutgers at Louisville (-19) – My pick is Rutgers

Stanford at Utah (+9) – My pick is Utah

Western Carolina at Auburn (-43.5) – My pick is Western Carolina

Virginia at Maryland (-7) – My pick is Maryland

California at UCLA (-24.5) – My pick is California

Kansas at TCU (24.5)My pick is TCU
