#5 Oklahoma State (24-8) vs. #12 Oregon (26-8) could be a special game.
In December, it was unthinkable that Oregon would barely make the NCAA Tournament. They were 18-2 through January before hitting the heart of their Pac-12 schedule.
Can Oregon join the long list of #12 seed upsets?
Who do you think will win? We help you fill out your bracket.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys might have the best player in this year’s tournament, Marcus Smart. He pushes the ball down the court and is a defensive ball hawk around the perimeter. He has a knack for shutting down the opposing team’s best perimeter scorer. OSU’s other guard Markel Brown isn’t too shabby either.
OSU does have a habit of runing isolation plays on offense. They don’t pass the ball well.
It is a tale of two seasons for the Oregon Ducks. You have the 18-2 start and the pedestrian 8-6 end. They averaged 75+ points per game during the first 20 games and then they hit a wall. They averaged over ten points less in their last 14 games.
Is Oregon more like the team that started hot or the vanilla team that finished poorly?
Unfortunately, I believe they will perform in the NCAA Tournament more like the team that sputtered at the end.
It’s a slippery slope when you start filling out your bracket with teams with an elite player. College coaches are smart and they can gameplan to take out a team’s best player. Oregon is talented, but in this case, they won’t be able to stop OSU’s Marcus Smart. I have the Cowboys advancing to face the winner of Saint Louis/New Mexico State game.
Prediction: Oklahoma State
